About Us
Fevolden Farm is a family owned farm in west central Wisconsin, just outside Black River Falls. The farm has been in the family over 150 years since Ole Olson Fevolden came to America from Norway in 1869. In 2002 the current generation formed a partnership to begin raising Huacaya alpacas. We shear the alpacas in the spring. This gives us their warm soft fiber to make into yarn and other products and helps prevent heat stress in the animals. We process the fiber in our studio in Cottage Grove Wi to produce yarn, hats, scarves and other products. Products are sold at our Black River Falls and Cottage Grove locations as well as at local craft/fiber events and now through our online store.
Alpaca has been shown to be warmer than sheep wool, lighter due to hollow hair fibers, (which also adds to its superior insulating ability), soft and smooth due to its scale structure and less of a problem with allergies as alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin. As a natural fiber it wicks moisture away from the skin and helps to retain warmth even when wet.
Alpaca comes in a wide range of natural shades and readily accepts dyes. Our products come in a variety of colors both natural and dyed. We sell alpacas, raw and processed fiber, yarn, and finished goods such as hats and headbands, scarves and shawls, gloves and mittens, and socks, socks and more socks! We sell clothing for infants through adult sizes.
